Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 pounds Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- Optional: 1/2 cup grated Gruyère cheese for extra richness
These ingredients come together to create a dish that’s as comforting as a warm hug. The nutmeg adds a hint of spice reminiscent of the cinnamon crumbles my mum used to bake, while the Gruyère offers an extra layer of indulgence.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Lightly grease a baking dish with olive oil.
- In a large bowl, toss the Brussels sprouts with olive oil, salt, pepper, and minced garlic until evenly coated.
- Spread the Brussels sprouts in the prepared baking dish. Pour the heavy cream evenly over the top.
- Sprinkle the Parmesan cheese and nutmeg over the Brussels sprouts, ensuring even coverage.
- In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs with the melted butter. Sprinkle this mixture over the top of the cheese layer.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the Brussels sprouts are tender and the top is golden and crisp.
- If you’re using Gruyère, sprinkle it over the bake in the last 5 minutes of cooking for a melty finish.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
The visual cues of a bubbling top and crispy, golden edges will remind you of the joy that comes from a perfectly baked dish.
