Ingredients
Let’s dive into the ingredients that make this dip so special. Each component plays a crucial role in building its flavor profile, and I’ll share some of my personal tips along the way.
- 1 cup fresh spinach, chopped
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup lump crab meat (fresh or canned)
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- Salt and pepper to taste
If you’re looking for substitutions, Greek yogurt can replace sour cream for a slightly tangier twist, and you might opt for kale instead of spinach for a heartier green. The beauty of cooking, as Mum always said, is its flexibility — let your pantry guide your creativity.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F. This is the perfect time to sip on some tea while the warmth of the oven fills your kitchen, much like my childhood days in Devon.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise. Mix until smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add in the chopped spinach, crab meat, Parmesan cheese, green onions, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper. Stir until well combined.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Feel free to adjust the seasoning as per your preference — a little more cayenne if you like a kick or a dash more lemon for brightness.
- Transfer the mixture to an oven-safe dish, spreading it evenly. Top with a little extra Parmesan if you fancy a golden crust.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the dip is bubbly and lightly golden on top.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving. This is the hardest part, I assure you, but it’s worth the wait!
My tip: Use a high-quality crab for the best flavor. It makes all the difference, much like the farm-fresh ingredients Mum always insisted upon.
