  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1 can (400g) chopped tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • A pinch of cinnamon (because, naturally)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent and fragrant.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon (my mum’s favorite tool), until it’s browned all over.
  3. Stir in the bell pepper, allowing it to soften slightly before adding the chopped tomatoes and tomato paste.
  4. Sprinkle in the cumin, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and that magical pinch of cinnamon. Stir well to combine all the flavors.
  5. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and the flavors meld beautifully.
  6. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
