Gathering your ingredients is like assembling the cast of a favorite play, each one bringing a unique character to the performance:
- 500g ground beef
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (400g) chopped tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (a nod to my childhood kitchen)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves, to garnish
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Cook, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, until browned.
- Stir in the chopped tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, and ground cinnamon. Season with salt and pepper.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for 20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together beautifully.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil leaves.
