Learn how to make delicious ground beef lo mein. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

  • 8 ounces lo mein noodles
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)

Feel free to substitute the vegetables with whatever’s in season or whatever brings a smile to your face. Mum always said the best meals are the ones that make you feel at home.

Instructions

  1. Cook the lo mein noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, about 5 minutes. Break the meat into small pieces as it cooks.
  3. Add the garlic and ginger to the skillet, stirring continuously for about 1 minute until fragrant. This step always reminds me of the early mornings in Devon, where the kitchen was filled with the comforting aroma of spices.
  4. Stir in the red bell pepper, broccoli, and carrots. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables begin to soften.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and sugar. Pour the sauce over the beef and vegetables, mixing well to combine.
  6. Add the cooked noodles to the skillet, tossing everything together until the noodles are well coated and heated through, about 2 minutes.
  7. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds, if using. Serve hot, and perhaps share a story or two as you enjoy.
