Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef stock
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: 1 teaspoon dried thyme or fresh parsley for garnish
If you prefer a leaner option, you can substitute ground turkey or chicken in place of beef. For a richer flavor, consider adding a splash of red wine or a dash of soy sauce for depth.
Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened and translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned, about 7-8 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
- Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture, stirring constantly to combine. Cook for 2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste.
- Gradually whisk in the beef stock, ensuring there are no lumps. Add the Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Let it cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed. If using, sprinkle with dried thyme or fresh parsley before serving.
