Learn how to make delicious ground beef cheese steak. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

As someone who treasures handwritten recipes, I believe in keeping things simple yet flavorful. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 hoagie rolls or similar bread
  • 8 slices provolone cheese

If you’re feeling adventurous, swap the provolone for cheddar or even a spicy pepper jack. After all, cooking is all about making it your own, just like my mum taught me.

Instructions

Cooking should be a joy, not a chore, so let’s keep things straightforward:

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and green bell peppers, cooking until they start to soften, about 5 minutes.
  2. Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon — my favorite kitchen tool — about 7-8 minutes.
  3. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  4. Preheat your oven’s broiler. While waiting, slice the hoagie rolls and place a couple of slices of provolone cheese in each one.
  5. Spoon the beef mixture into the rolls, making sure each one is generously filled. More is always better, just like at our family dinners.
  6. Place the filled rolls on a baking sheet and broil until the cheese is melted and bubbly — about 2 minutes. Keep an eye on them; they can go from perfect to singed in a heartbeat.
