Ingredients
Scale
Gather the following ingredients to bring this gratin to life. Remember, quality is key, so opt for fresh asparagus and your favorite cheese to enhance the flavors.
- 1 pound fresh asparagus, trimmed
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional, for a hint of warmth)
Instructions
Follow these steps to craft your very own Cheesy Asparagus Gratin. Each step is infused with tips from my own kitchen experiences, hopefully guiding you to a delightful meal.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). This gives the cheese plenty of time to bubble and turn golden.
- Rinse the asparagus and trim the woody ends. Arrange them in a single layer in a greased baking dish.
- In a small saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Pour the heavy cream into the saucepan and bring it to a gentle simmer. Stir in the nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
- Pour the creamy mixture over the asparagus. Sprinkle the Gruyère and Parmesan cheeses evenly over the top.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and bubbly and the asparagus is tender.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving, just like my mum used to do, allowing the flavors to meld beautifully.
