Learn how to make delicious Cheesy Asparagus Gratin. Easy recipe with step-by-step instructions.

  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

Gather the following ingredients to bring this gratin to life. Remember, quality is key, so opt for fresh asparagus and your favorite cheese to enhance the flavors.

  • 1 pound fresh asparagus, trimmed
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional, for a hint of warmth)

Instructions

Follow these steps to craft your very own Cheesy Asparagus Gratin. Each step is infused with tips from my own kitchen experiences, hopefully guiding you to a delightful meal.

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). This gives the cheese plenty of time to bubble and turn golden.
  2. Rinse the asparagus and trim the woody ends. Arrange them in a single layer in a greased baking dish.
  3. In a small saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  4. Pour the heavy cream into the saucepan and bring it to a gentle simmer. Stir in the nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
  5. Pour the creamy mixture over the asparagus. Sprinkle the Gruyère and Parmesan cheeses evenly over the top.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and bubbly and the asparagus is tender.
  7. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving, just like my mum used to do, allowing the flavors to meld beautifully.
